Anti-War Resolution Passes City Council
The Resolution Opposing Unilateral War in Iraq was passed in DeKalb City
Council meeting last night by a vote of 4 to 3, with one member Dave
Baker eventually voting No who had been told he couldn't Abstain.  The
Council chambers were packed, mostly with supporters of the Resolution,
30 of whom made brief (but eloquent) statements in favor.  Some Council
members expressed hesitation to passing such a Resolution was in their
purview.

If the Mayor vetoes,  it may come up again on Feb. 11 for an override
vote.  By then, we are hoping that Dave Baker can be persuaded to vote
in favor.  It's important for his constituents in the 6th Ward to
contact him.  A map of his ward can be obtained on the City's website:

Better yet would be for citizens to dissuade Mayor Greg Sparrow from
vetoing it.  That way it could be on its way along with dozens from
other cities including Chicago to our President and congressional
leaders, instead of languishing 2 more weeks in DeKalb.  All residents
are urged to contact him questioning the veto.  Phone:  748-2099;

It would be great if people would also thank Steve Kapitan for
introducing and Andy Small, Pat Conboy, and Kris Povlson for supporting
the Resolution.

Every little bit we can do just may be the thing that convinces our
President that the people of the U.S. do not want unilateral war on Iraq!
