Crime
and Attitudes
About
Neighborhood Safety
Where exactly
does Crime data come from? It usually comes from two general sources:
observations and reports. Crime statistics can be gathered by observing
criminal activity directly, observed in terms of the response of bystanders
and witnesses, generated by criminal justice agencies, and reported
by victims or offenders. Several questions in the CCCS explore whether
or not residents have been victims of assault, burglary, larceny(personal
and household), or robbery. Additional questions in the survey examine
residents' perception of the level of crime in their community, as
well as their attitudes regarding gun legislation.
