Standing
up for peace--
Weekly
Vigils and Peace Circles Continue
People of all
ages continue
to swell the crowd on the corner of First Street and Lincoln Highway
each
Friday evening at 5 p.m. Eight different church leaders, including one
rabbi, have addressed the brief Peace Circle following each Vigil at
6:00.
Each person who comes challlenges others to do so. DeKalb’s
turnout
of 40 to 50 per week has inspired other communities to start
similar
protests or to increase their number of participants.
As peaceful
protests grow
across the nation, we feel our leaders will surely have to take
notice.
President Eisenhauer once predicted that one day the people are going
to
want peace so badly that their leaders will have to get out
of the way and let them have it. As each one knows who has
participated
realizes, standing for peace with others of like mind is an energizing
experience. If the Stroups, Helen Merritt, Estelle Von Zellen,
and
Rose Feuer's tiny son can carry a sign for peace, can you do
less?
