I have published three papers and an essay assessing the state of sociology in the context of the changing conditions of higher education and the profession. I plan to continue to monitor this issue and maintain databases I have constructed. My current research efforts in higher education are concentrated on the development of critical thinking and quantitative reasoning skills in methodology courses and curriculums. I have also prepared reports for NIU evaluating the effectiveness of the sociology curriculum, and am currently collaborating with George Gutierrez, University Resources for Latinos, on research that helps us to understand the factors affecting Latino student success at NIU.
